Touchscreen without contact
Apple's patented technology to control the screen sensitive to touch, which will allow controlling the interface itself by placing a finger over the screen. Technology will be used in combination with existing screens that react to touch and to work will require more infrared (or similar) sensors that will give the relative position of fingers, hands or other objects in relation to the device by measuring the quantity of light in different positions screen.
What Apple is announcing this technology is the ability to interface modifications depending on the location of the facility over the screen. Currently iPhoneovi sensors off the screen when the device is near to ear, a new technology that would allow certain parts of the screen remain active.
Apple is not obliged to implement the technology in actual products, but it could potentially be used in a wide range of devices - from PCs and translators to mobile phones and portable media player.
